History and Story of the Fox Cities Stars
Fox Valley Lutheran High School * St. Mary Central High School * Xavier High School

The Fox Cities Stars are embarking on their 3rd WIAA hockey season. We are
the CO-OP team of Fox Valley Lutheran, St. Mary Central, and Xavier High
Schools. Our program provides our students an opportunity to play varsity
hockey for their high school.

The program will embark on the 2007-08 season with high expectations.
Having only one senior graduating from last year’s team should have a great
returning nucleus. The Stars will have their top 5 scorers returning from last
season, and Ritchie Del Viscio is returning in the net to build on a strong 2006-
07 campaign.

The Stars will look to improve upon a disappointing 3 win season, and will
again look to be the Area’s All Academic hockey team. We have a number of
incoming freshmen who the Stars will rely on to contribute early.  It should be
an exciting year in 2007-08, and the expectation it to set a number of team
records en-route to a strong playoff push come mid February.

Below is a brief history of how the Fox Cities Stars have gotten to this point.

2006-07
The Stars did not finish the 2006-07 season with as many of wins as we
would have liked ending with a 3-18 record. The team lost a number of close
games, with 5 one goal games and 5 two goal games. The season ended with
a disappointing 5-0 loss to DePere.

There was however a number of positives to take away from the season. The
Stars had only one Senior, and 10 of the teams 17 players were freshman
and sophomores. The teams top 3 scorers were freshmen. There were a
number of team records set: Thomas Wettstein broke the teams assist record,
Danny Asmuth tied the team record for power play goals in a season, Connor
O’Brian tied the record for season short handed goals, and broke the 1 mile
run record. Ritchie Del Visco broke a number of goaltending records with most
starts in a season and career, most saves in season and career, most saves
in a game.

2005-06
The Stars 2005-06 season was the most successful season in our young
history.  The Stars had their 1st seven win season, and lost 5 games by one
goal each. We also had our first WIAA playoff victory, winning a 2 overtime
thriller against Beaver Dam. We closed the season out against a very talented
Neenah team. The Stars hung with them for 2 periods, but ended up on the
short end of a 5 to 1 game.

For the 2005-2006 season, academically the Stars were once again the Area’
s All-Academic team, and individually the Stars had their first player named to
the Section All-Senior team, as that honor went to Brandon Panich.

2004-05
Year Two we had new challenges, as the coaching staff (except one
assistant) left to coach elsewhere.  On a positive note we formed a CO-OP
with St. Mary Central; adding additional players and making high school
hockey available to another school in our area. Our record improved and we
ended with a 10-9 record as a junior varsity program.

2004 saw another step forward as we became a varsity program. We faced
the toughest competition that our program had seen. We traveled further and
skated against larger more established programs; one Milwaukee area CO-
OP team had a feeder program with over 600 skaters!  The kids were ready
to face the challenges head on and ended the year with a 5-16 record.

During 2004 we also entered into discussion with Fox Valley Lutheran High
School to join our program. The 2005-2006 season saw three players from
Fox Valley Lutheran compete with the Stars.  When Fox Valley Lutheran
joined our co-op we officially changed the team name from the Xavier Hawks
to the Fox Valley Stars.

2002-03
The first year was played as a Junior Varsity schedule and the team ended
the year with a 0-20-1 record.  Regardless of the record, the players never
gave up and had the thrill of playing High School Hockey.

Our continuous improvement and player development has the coaching staff
very optimistic for this upcoming year.  The support we receive from our
School’s Administrations, Athletic Directors, Team Parents and local fans all
contribute to the success of this young team.
